Oceano Community Track and Field Project

The Oceano Community Track and Field Project will create a walking/jogging track and soccer fields at Oceano Elementary School. The project was first conceived in 2021 by the “Safe Routes to Schools Committee” of the Oceano PTA. Oceano has no public recreation or park facilities. The track and soccer fields will be a legacy recreational asset for the community for decades to come. The track will be open to the public anytime school is not in session, and students will use it for physical education during school. Lucia Mar Unified School District is the lead agency for the project and is responsible for its operation, maintenance, and security.
In 2024, the OCSD, OPARC, Lucia Mar Unified School District (LMUSD), and Habitat for Humanity agreed to collaborate to build the track at Oceano School. LMUSD is the lead agency and provider of land for the track and field; OPARC is helping to organize the fundraising for construction; and Habitat for Humanity is helping to provide some of the labor and materials. Local construction companies have offered to review the track plans and see how they can support our efforts. Design and engineering are almost complete, and the goal is to break ground in June 2025.
There have been generous donations from businesses like Miner’s Hardware, Coastal Hills Credit Union, Smart & Final, and Oceano Surf Shack; from community organizations like Altrusa Club, Five Cities Men’s Club, First United Church, and Oceano Parent Teachers Association, and individuals. Working together, this project has been able to become a reality for our community.
Thank you for supporting the Oceano Community Track and Soccer Fields Project!
